This week’s well-deserved Star Staff shoutout goes to Mr Barber, whose kindness, creativity and care for students truly stood out.

After noticing one of his students was struggling to focus in lessons, Nick took it upon himself to design and build a fidget bar prototype, a clever tool that fits under the front of a desk to help students with hyperactivity needs channel their energy and maintain concentration.

This thoughtful innovation shows not only Nick’s problem solving skills, but also his deep commitment to inclusion and supporting all learners. We’re so lucky to have staff who go the extra mile to make a difference.

We can’t promise Mr Garbutt won’t be in a dress… or that Mr Riley won’t appear on a broomstick reenacting Defying Gravity, but we can promise an evening full of music, laughter and Crossley Heath spirit!

This week we visited St Augustine’s, our partner charity, to help celebrate the strength and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary right here in Calderdale.

We were honoured to meet volunteers and centre members who are united in one powerful mission: to support families arriving in Calderdale as they begin new lives after fleeing war, persecution and hardship.

A heartfelt thank you to our Head Students Lakshya, Anaya and William, who joined the visit to learn more so they can lead assemblies next year on the incredible impact St Augustine’s makes. Also a huge well done to Hana, who will soon be joining our Sixth Form and is already leading by example through her volunteering.

This visit was a reminder of the kindness, compassion, and community spirit that lies at the heart of Crossley Heath.

A huge well done to Jesse, who had a fantastic day yesterday representing the Halifax-based Cricket Asylum Academy at St Peter’s School, York.

Competing in a Super 8 format, Jesse took on the role of wicket-keeper for all four matches, showing real skill and focus throughout. He even opened the tournament with its first boundary 4!

It was a brilliant day of high-level cricket and a great opportunity for Jesse to connect with talented young players from across the UK. We’re incredibly proud of his performance and dedication on and off the pitch!
