  • Sporting Excellence Programme

The Crossley Heath Sporting Excellence Programme is a prestigious two-year Sixth Form pathway designed to support our most talented and ambitious student athletes in achieving excellence both academically and in their sport. This programme will be welcoming its first cohort of students from September 2026.

We recognise that pursuing high-level sport alongside A Level study requires exceptional commitment, discipline and resilience. This programme has been created to ensure that students do not have to choose between academic success and sporting ambition, but instead are supported to achieve both.

Delivered in partnership with leading universities and supported by elite athletes, specialist coaches and mentors, the programme provides students with access to expert guidance, professional development opportunities and financial support to help them reach their full potential.

Our teaching staff are fully committed to supporting dual career pathways, working flexibly with students and providing access to additional academic support, including our in-school academic tutors, to ensure sporting ambition is supported alongside strong academic achievement.

Places on this programme are limited and awarded only to students who demonstrate exceptional ability, commitment and potential.

    Programme Disclaimer

As this is a new and evolving programme, components may be adapted over time. The school reserves the right to make changes where appropriate to ensure the programme continues to provide the highest level of support to our student athletes.

Do I need to be studying Sport or PE at A Level to join the programme?

No, you do not. Students on the Sporting Excellence Programme can study any A Level subjects. The programme is designed for students who compete in sport at a high level alongside their academic studies, whatever subjects they choose.

Can I take part in other enrichment or leadership opportunities if I am on the Sporting Excellence Programme?

Yes, in many cases you can. We will look at this on a case-by-case basis depending on your subject choices, the demands of your sport, and the additional activity you are interested in. If there is something you are passionate about and feel you can commit to fully, we recognise the value that wider enrichment and leadership experiences can add.

We will always be mindful of your overall schedule, but the Sporting Excellence Programme is designed to be flexible and tailored to the individual, so where possible we will work with you to help make these opportunities achievable alongside your sporting commitments.
