We are delighted to invite you to attend an information evening containing a variety of workshops, designed to help you support your child at home.

The workshops take place from 5.30 pm until 7.30 pm, during which time there will be a variety of sessions running simultaneously for 25 minutes. They will then be repeated each half hour and you can move around to view those that you feel will be of interest to you.

The workshops are as follows:

Careers – What is LMI (Labour Market Information)?

This session will explain the importance of LMI and show parents how to use this information to support their child to make informed decisions about their future career. This workshop will be delivered by the school’s careers advisor, Karen Duckworth of C &K Careers.

Young people and social media/online communications

This workshop, delivered by Mr Chesters, Assistant Head/Designated Safeguarding Lead,  will explore the issues young people face growing up in a digital world.

Supporting Emotional Wellbeing & Fitness

This session will be delivered by Mr Davis, our Senior Mental Health Lead, and Kirsty Longbottom from Open Minds.  There will be an outline of the current school provision for supporting student emotional wellbeing and how parents can work alongside school staff to support their child’s emotional development.  In addition, parents/carers will be given guidance on the fundamental principles for nurturing emotional fitness for children and young people.

Support with Additional Education Needs

Delivered by our SENCO, Miss Gillespie, this session will outline how to support a child with additional education needs.

Mr Hirst, Assistant Head, will provide some practice advice, tips and suggestions as to how parents/carers can effectively support their child/ren with their home learning.  It will also provide clarity around the frequency and amount of work set, plus an insight into how teachers use Microsoft Teams to share homework tasks.

The curriculum and how teachers plan

Deputy Head, Mr Brownlie, will deliver this session which aims to help you understand what your child will learn during the academic year.

Refreshments will be available from 5pm in the dining room and throughout the evening for you to pick up something before or in between workshops. These are kindly provided by members of the CHPTA team, from whom you can learn more about the great support they offer to school.

In addition, our uniform shop will be available for you to browse/purchase items of pre-worn uniform items.

A summary table is attached. We hope you will find these workshops useful and we look forward to seeing you on the 18th.
