Rotary Shoebox Appeal

The Rotary Clubs in Calderdale have launched its 2018 shoebox appeal. It will run over the next few weeks leading up to Christmas and our school is participating in this wonderful community appeal that we know will put a smile on so many faces at Christmas time.

We are all fully aware that times are difficult for many in our community and the expectations for some in the run up to Christmas will be bleak. Schools, parents and children can and are therefore helping! Voluntary Action Calderdale (VAC) working with Rotary has identified many charities, individuals and good causes who will be the end recipients of the filled shoeboxes. Last year 2,200 boxes were given out! Help in the funding of the purchase of flat-packs has been kindly provided by a grant from the Community Foundation for Calderdale (CFFC). Once filled boxes have been returned to school they will be distributed during the week leading up to Christmas, to the needier in Calderdale. Those who are given a Christmas shoebox will range from the very young to the older in our community.

All forms in school have been given a shoebox for collection, however if you would like a box of your own, please let us know. There are three possible fillings, Toys, Toiletries & Food. Guidelines as to what might be placed into each, is shown on the flap of the flat-pack box. If filling a box for a child, please though do not put in second-hand toys unless they are ‘like new’. We cannot pass out a box that, when opened, a child is not excited about!

With regard to the timescale for filling, the answer is we would appreciate boxes to be returned to school no later than Monday 8th December to allow for sorting and distribution.
