Information about the Mosaic Alliance

School Experiences: Our partnership of schools is led by Crossley Heath Grammar School and comprises grammar schools, comprehensive schools and, uniquely, a special school which provides for students with special educational needs and disabilities. We are offering the opportunity to experience a diverse and contrasting range of teaching and training experiences.

Cross-School Training: We will provide regular joint training sessions for trainees in our schools. These will run fortnightly and will take place across all the partner schools. This ensure that you have the opportunity to work closely and share experiences with other trainees and have access to the huge expertise of teachers from all our schools irrespective of your placements.

High Quality Training: You will be trained in a warm and highly supportive environment by teachers and lecturers who enjoy their jobs, are passionate about providing the best possible education for their pupils and who are keen to contribute to the training of new teachers. You will develop a wealth of practical skills and learn strategies covering all aspects of classroom practice from fostering interest and enthusiasm through planning, assessment and classroom management.

Extra-Curricular Activities: There will be plenty of opportunities for cluster trainees to be actively involved in extra-curricular activities in any of our schools in order to pursue particular interests.

Opportunities for All: We will ensure that you work with students from diverse backgrounds, across the whole secondary age and ability range. Post -16 experience will be a feature of at least one of your placements.

UCAS – School Direct

The Application Process

Selection: Our university partners will check incoming application forms and confirm which applicants meet their entrance criteria. The schools will then select and inform candidates that they wish to interview.

Interview: The selected applicants will then be invited for interview at one of the partnership schools. You may be asked to bring evidence of identity and qualifications and to prepare a 5 minute presentation in advance. During the day you will be asked to plan and lead a discussion with a group of KS3 students. You will have the opportunity to tour the school, to chat with current trainees, staff and students and to ask any questions you have regarding our programme. All candidates will have a formal interview with at least two representatives from partnership schools, one of whom will be a subject specialist. The universities may also have a representative on the interview panel.

Outcome: Candidates will be informed by the University within 5 working days of the interview whether they have been successful or not. For candidates not offered a training place, feedback on their interview performance will be available from the University.
