Iceland Trip 2019

What time do students need to be at school on Sunday 2nd June?
Students must arrive at 20.00 on Sunday 2nd June; the coach will be parked on the road by the rear entrance.

What are the flight details?
Sunday 2nd June – 23.50 Depart on Icelandair flight FI445. Arrive in Iceland at 23.10
Friday 7th June – 08.00 Depart on Icelandair flight FI440. Arrive in Manchester at 11.45

How will my son/daughter get home from the airport?
A coach will take students back to school and they will need to be collected from there at 14.00: The time is only an estimate as it is dependent on how quickly we can get through security.

How much spending money should my son/daughter take?
Iceland is generally very expensive, I would advise students to take extra snacks in their suitcase and ensure they take an empty drinks bottle to fill with water in Iceland. I would suggest £60 would be more than enough.

What is the currency in Iceland?
The Icelandic currency is the Icelandic króna – it is not available in most travel agents but can be ordered at the Post Office (if you do this online, it asks for a minimum spend of about £400 so it is best to go into a local branch).

What is the baggage allowance on the plane?
The baggage allowance is 23Kg. If the suitcase is over this limit, your son/daughter will need to pay the excess at the check in desk.

What meals will be provided?
The first meal provided will be provided on the plane. Please make complete the food options slip before you leave today.

Will walking shoes be acceptable?

No, students must have walking boots as it is part of the risk assessment to have ankle support for hiking and walking on the glacier.

Important points to remember:

  • No liquids in hand luggage (apart from less than 100ml bottles)
  • No sharp objects in hand luggage.
  • Iceland booklet and pencil case
  • Wear walking boots to travel in as quite heavy for suitcase.
  • Swim wear and towel
  • Please hand passport and EHIC card to Miss Gillespie (you will get a receipt) before 22nd May 2019

@crossleygeog will be posting photographs and updates throughout the trip.
