The purpose of governance

The purpose of governance is to provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance.
All boards, no matter what type of schools or how many schools they govern, have three core functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent

Governance Handbook for academies, multi-academy trusts and maintained schools
(Department for Education January 2017)

The Governors of The Crossley Heath School aim at all times to fulfil their three core functions as we endeavour to maintain the superb reputation of our vibrant and dynamic school.
We have high expectations and aspirations and we pledge to work to:

  • strive for excellence, creativity and variety across the whole school curriculum
  • enhance our teaching and learning provision
  • continue to set high standards in social, intellectual and cultural pursuits
  • build on our capacity and success in leading change
  • take advantage of future opportunities
  • maintain our strong ethos, core values and traditions
  • be at the forefront of the educational and wider community
  • collaborate and cooperate with our partners
